The questions a local vault should answer.
Is Void really fully offline?
Yes. It makes no network requests at all: no sync, no accounts, no telemetry, not even update checks. The only data that ever leaves your machine is a backup you decide to export yourself.
How do I sync between machines?
There's no cloud sync, and that's on purpose. Instead, you export your vault to a single encrypted .void file and import it wherever you want, whether that's a USB stick, your own drive, or anywhere else you trust.
What if I forget my password?
The first time you unlock Void, it hands you a 24-word recovery key. Keep it somewhere safe and offline and you can always get back in. Without the password or those words, nobody can open the vault, and that includes us.
If my laptop is stolen, can someone read my notes?
No. Everything is encrypted on disk, and the keys only live in memory while the vault is unlocked. They're wiped the moment you lock it, when it auto-locks, and when you quit the app.
What happens if Void goes away?
Your vault is just files on your own disk, encrypted with a standard, well-documented cipher (ChaCha20-Poly1305). Nothing about it depends on a server staying online, so it keeps working no matter what happens to us.
Does it run on Mac or Linux?
Right now Void is built for Windows 11. The vault format itself isn't tied to Windows, but for the moment the app only ships there.
How much does it cost?
Nothing at all. Void is a free download, with no account, no subscription, and no upsell waiting around the corner.
